Chairman of the Liberal group of deputies of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Anne Brasseur filed a petition to hold debates on the situation in Belarus during the winter session of PACE in Strasbourg, scheduled on January 24-28. This was reported in the press service of the Alliance of European Liberals.
«European Liberals issued a joint statement on the situation in Belarus, signed by the chairmen of liberal groups PACE and European Parliament, the Party of European Liberal Democrats and the Liberal International,» said in a statement.
The statement also strongly condemned the use of force by the authorities against political opponents. European liberals called on the official Minsk to release all detainees and to conduct an independent and transparent investigation into Minsk events of December 19-20.
