Poland will support Belarus if the country takes the path of democracy. This was stated by head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski during his speech at the Seimas of the Republic, dedicated to foreign policy, which the country had scheduled for 2011. "Policies towards Belarus should be conditional," he said.

«The fate of the brotherly people is especially close to us. I have repeatedly insisted that Poland, in particular, can help Belarus, if it chooses the path of change. But we must also strongly react when Belarus turns off this path with disrespect to the basic human and civil rights. I believe that time will come for us to provide support to Belarus, which will carry out reforms and cooperate with Europe,» a statement of the minister appeared on the site of the Polish Foreign Ministry on March 16.

Addressing the Seimas, Radoslaw Sikorski mentioned ancient Roman poet Horace, calling on to support the neighbors.

«As Horace wrote, «if your neighbor is burning, you’re risking as well.» Solidarity is a special concept for the Poles. Not only government, but dozens of non-governmental organizations switched into support for the Belarusian society. In solidarity with mass beating and arrests after the presidential election in Belarus, we organized a donors’ conference in Warsaw, where dozens of delegations from various countries and international organizations expressed their desire to support  Belarus with €87 million,» he said.
