Polling Stations are Closed in Belarus

Belarus has closed the polling stations; presidential elections are over. 6.390 polling stations were founded in the Republic, 44 stations are outside the Republic in 34 countries. CEC accredited more than a thousand international observers.

The CIS mission includes 326 people, the OSCE — 490 people. Territorial commissions accredited more than 30 thousand domestic observers. The EU pledged to help Belarus in the amount of €3 billion, if the elections in Belarus are free and open.

More than a thousand journalists were accredited to work in the press center of the Central Election Commission, of which only one-third — Belarusians, Korrespondent.net reports.

Br37 billion was allocated for the presidential elections, Br27 billion — for the first round and about Br11 billion — for the second round, if needed.

There were 10 candidates for the presidency of Belarus: the incumbent president Alexander Lukashenko, the leader of the civil campaign European Belarus Andrei Sannikov, leader of the civil campaign «Tell the truth!» Vladimir Niakliaeu, deputy chairman of the United Civil Party Yaroslav Romanchuk, deputy chairman of the BPF Rygor Kastusiou, the representative of the party the «Belarusian Christian Democracy» Vital Rymasheuski, chairman of the Association of Small and Medium Business Viktor Tereshchenko, head of the organizing committee of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (People’s Hramada ) Nikolai Statkevich, founder of the Union «For modernization» Ales Michalevic, director of the private enterprise Dmitri Uss.

It was previously reported that the presidential candidate Niakliaeu was taken to hospital after clashes with riot police on December 19.

There was also information that all social networks had been disconnected in Minsk, through which the protests against rigged presidential elections had been coordinated.
