Prices in Belarus Grew by 4.2% for Two Months, Belstat

The index of changes in consumer prices amounted to 104.2% in Belarus in February 2011 against December 2010, while it made 102.7% against January 2011. This was reported in the National Statistics Committee on March 15. 

Food price index amounted to 102.2% in February 2011 against January 2011, and 104.4% against December 2010. The most significant price increase was observed in buckwheat (127.9%), sugar (109.8%), millet (107.6%), first category beef (105.1%), fruits and vegetables ( 104%), animal oil (103.4%), fish and seafood (103.1%).

Non-food products’ prices have been growing at a slower rate than consumer goods’ prices. Non-food products’ price index amounted to 100.3% in February 2011 against January 2011, 100.6% against December 2010. Jewelry (102.5%), textiles (102.2%), watches (101.2%), furniture, carpets and rugs (101%) became more expensive in February.

The rise in prices and tariffs for paid services amounted to 107.3% in February 2011 compared with January 2011, and 108.8% campared with December 2010. Preschool services rose by 34.9% in February, public utilities — by 17.3%, including gas services — by 1.7 times, cold water supply and sanitation — by 14.5%, electricity — 12% and maintenance of premises — 4.4%. The price rise in higher education services amounted to 104.8%, 103.7% in Culture and 102.3% in Physical Culture and Sport.

Producer price index of agricultural production in January 2011 amounted to 105.3% against December 2010.
