Deputy Director of the Center of Ukrainian and Belorussian Studies, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Bogdan Bezpalko, believes that Vladimir Putin admitted another evident collapse of Russia's elite policy towards Belarus.

The expert made this statement, commenting Vladimir Putin’s words that Russia has always stood for the normalization of relations between Belarus and the West, and if this normalization is priced by Minsk’s non-recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, «there is already some positive effect».

«In this case, Russia can not impact on its closest ally on the recognition of these two states. Moscow has also refused to support those forces in Belarus, which it calls as pro-Russian», — said Bogdan Bezpalko, reports IA «REGNUM-Belarus».

«Such processes — beginning to happen in Belarus — are similar to what happens in Ukraine, but in softer form. After a while, they will form their own national idea, which, perhaps, will deny Russianness and defend another national identity, but may be not in such a sharp form. In this case, Russia’s power does not remain any mechanism to counteract these processes «, stressed the expert.
