International non-governmental organization Reporters Without Borders, supporting the freedom of speech worldwide, gave Belarus as a negative example of the freedom of speech in mass media. Assessing the situation in Ukraine, the spokesman for the German office of organization, Anya Fiol, expressed the hope that the country "will not take Belarusian path".

Reporters Without Borders has recently marked «increased cases of censorship, attacks on journalists, increased political pressure on the press» in Ukraine, Belarusian office of Deutsche Welle informs.

«After «orange revolution» in the country there was a progress with the freedom of speech and press. Now, we note the reverse process. But we look forward to a constructive dialogue with Kiev», Anya Fiol stated.

In 2009, in the annual ranking of the freedom of speech, Reporters Without Borders gave Belarus 151st position out of 175 countries. Only Russia was below Belarus from European countries in the list (153rd place).
