Candidate for the presidency from the United Civil Party, and now an aspirant for the role of a single candidate from democratic forces, an economist Jaroslav Romanchuk, stated that he welcomed the decision of Rada of Belarusian intelligentsia to reduce the number of contenders for the role of a "single" to five people. "And I will do everything possible to become this single", Deputy Chairman of the UCP declared.
«People in Rada of intelligentsia know what to do, know the situation», Jaroslav Romanchuk said. «This decision is their proposal to the Belarusians. And if they decided this way, why not?» They invited everybody to cooperate, they study what is people’s attitude to the issue of a single candidate, to the fact that in Belarus there would establish democracy finally. This is not only assessment of words but actions. And we will continue to participate in consultations and act in such a way that the strongest candidate to compete Lukashenko at elections».
Besides Jaroslav Romanchuk, Rada of Belarusian intelligentsia included in the five of contenders for the role of a «single», the leader of European Belarus civil campaign, Andrei Sannikov, former presidential candidate, Alexander Kozulin, leader of Belarusian Party of the Left «Fair World», Sergei Kalyakin, and leader of Tell the Truth! civil campaign, poet Uladzimir Niaklajeu.
Jaroslav Romanchuk stressed that only he and Andrei Sannikov publicly announced about their presidential ambitions, said, Euramost.org informs.
«As of Niaklajeu, then he said it indirectly», the deputy chairman of the UCP said. «And everybody knows that he and Tell the truth! are preparing to participate in election campaign. Of course, there is a possibility that Niaklajeu will not be the candidate himself, but then Tell the truth! to support a man we know well».
«As of Kalyakin and Kozulin, then they said nothing about their participation, but from the standpoint of Rada of intelligentsia they may participate in the formulation of procedures or in the negotiation on a single candidate. Sergei Kalyakin represents left spectrum of political parties, he is a person of authority and man of his word. Therefore, he was included in these five, I think. Kozulin is also a moral leader. The man who in 2006 proved by his actions that he was a man of honor and conscience. In essence, there remain to make a choice between three people», Jaroslav Romanchuk stated.
Furthermore, the contender for presidency from the UCP expressed his confidence in that there would be no conflict between those who had got in these five, and those who missed it. «There are no conflicts, and never will. There are people who are serious about these elections, they prepare people and structures, and resources. It is obvious who and how works in regions! And with all the respect to people who are not mentioned in the list, they will join the campaign, which will be maintained. And on the sidelines we do not consider this decision as favoritism to those who are in the five. It’s just real and healthy assessment of who and what represents in Belarusian politics», Jaroslav Romanchuk summed up.
