Despite the worsening dispute between Belarus and Russia, countries still remain the closest military partners. This opinion was expressed by the chairman of the Committee on National Security and Defense of the Lithuanian Seim Arvydas Anushauskas and added that the military component of Vilnius-Minsk communication was far from its prospective, provided for higher democracy level in Belarus.

«Let’s not overestimate these things (differences). Belarusian-Russian cooperation remains unchanged in the military sphere, as it used to be, though. Belarus has linked its defense with Russia by bilateral agreements, we are already NATO members, as well,» Arvydas Anushauskas said, «Litovskij Kurier«.

The head of a special committee noted that Lithuania needed to communicate with its neighbors on all issues, taking into account military exercises «with a very interesting scenario,» held close to its borders.

«It’s very interesting and important for us. No doubt, a direct communication improves mutual knowledge on topical issues,» Arvydas Anushauskas said and added that «there won’t be such an intimacy, as there’s between the NATO countries.»

According to Telegraf, the Defence Ministers of Lithuania Rasa Jukneviciene and Belarus Yuri Zhadobin signed a cooperation agreement in Vilnius and expressed hope for closer cooperation in the future. This agreement is the first of its kind instrument, signed by Belarus with NATO member countries.
