Russia Offers Belarus Its Ports to Transport Crude Oil

Leningrad Region of Russia offers Belarus to use its ports to transport crude oil and petroleum products. It was stated in St. Petersburg at a meeting of the joint commission on cooperation of Leningrad region and Belarus by deputy chairman of the commission, Vice-Governor — Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development and Investment Activity of Leningrad region, Grigory Dvas.

Vice-governor noted that freight turnover in the ports of Leningrad region has grown significantly in recent years. «There is a construction of a modern container terminal, which output is supposed to reach up to three million standard containers a year, in one of the ports. In this regard, Leningrad region offers Belarus its capacities to transit oil and oil products», Grigory Dvas stressed.

Furthermore, according to vice-governor, the Leningrad side is also ready to transport Belarusian foodstuffs. «We are ready to transport various goods through our port complexes», Grigory Dvas said, BelTA informs.

According to vice-governor, in this regard, there appear great opportunities for collaboration of refineries of Belarus and Leningrad region. «We can arrange close technology partnership between refining organizations of the two sides», the chairman of the Committee for Economic Development and Investment Activity of Leningrad region summed up.

In his turn, Prime Minister of Belarus, Sergei Sidorsky, noted that it was a very interesting proposal for Belarusian industry. Belarusian exporters shift from 30 million ton to 50 million tons of cargo through the ports of neighboring countries. The proposal of Leningrad region is attractive and promising, Belarusian premier said.
