Russia adamantly opposes the EU imposition of any sanctions on the official Minsk. This was stated by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov on June 9.

As Telegraf previously reported, May 23, the EU expanded the black list of Belarusian officials, targeted for such restrictions as accounts freezing and the EU entry ban. Norway and the USA also imposed sanctions on Belarus.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on May 31 that «Russia hasn’t agreed with the EU on sanctions yet.» «We just call for respect for human rights and international obligations, and we’ve neither introduced nor threatened with any new sanctions, unlike the EU,» he said.

Meanwhile, aliens engaged in human rights activities, including Russian ones, are being regularly detained in Belarus. Head of the International Observation Mission of the Committee of international control over the human rights situation in Belarus, Andrei Yurov, also a Russian citizen, was deported from Minsk in March.
