Russia to Keep Customs Control at the Border with Belarus till 2011

Customs control on all highways on Belarus-Russia border for import of good to Russia from Belarus will continue at least till January 1, 2011. It was reported by the chief of Analysis Department of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia, Vladimir Ivin.

«At present, there defined three exceptions (duties) of the free movement of goods from Belarus to Russia. The first exception are goods in respect of which in Russia there operate anti-dumping and countervailing measures, they are about nine», PRIME- TASS quotes the department’s head of the FCS of Russia.

According to Vladimir Ivin, the second exception is related to the import of vehicles by individuals. «Russia is not against the existence of lower duties on cars in Belarus, but if they are not imported for sale to Russia», the representative of the FCS of the Russian Federation said, adding that the restrictions on the movement of vehicles are not introduced.

However, Vladimir Ivin stressed that if «a car is out of the register, then, when passing through the point of notification, there should be paid the difference in duties, which exist in Russia and Belarus».

Commenting on the third exception, the representative of the Federal Customs Service of Russia stated that it would be the longest and deals with the export of goods. Vladimir Ivin also believes that these three exceptions will by applied till the moment when there must be prepared papers on common economic space (till mid-2011).
