Russian Foreign Ministry Wins Release of All Russian Detainees in Minsk

Russia's Foreign Ministry has won the release of all Russian citizens, detained in Minsk during an unauthorized protest after the presidential elections on December 19. As reported by Foreign Ministry of Russia on December 29, two Russian detainees were released in connection with the expiration of the administrative detention, another nine people were released ahead of time.

As Telegraf previously reported, 639 people were detained during the unsanctioned rally in Minsk on December 19. The Belarusian opposition leaders, former presidential candidates, their proxies, as well as Belarusian and foreign journalists were among them. Furthermore, 11 citizens of Russia were among those detained people.

Three of the detainees were sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest for participating in the unsanctioned meeting, eight — for 15 days. Minsk City Court rejected a petition for early release of Russian citizens on December 27.

Ministry of Justice, in turn, published a commentary on the situation of the Russian citizens’ detention on December 29. «In accordance with the Constitution of Belarus, our country has the supreme control and absolute authority in its territory,» the Ministry of Justice stressed.
