Russians Demand to Raise Prices for Gas for Belarus, Public Inquiry

Results of a public inquiry, made in Russia by "Levada-centre", shown that the majority of Russians (55 %) supported raise of the prices for gas for Belarus on the European level. 12 % of respondents said, that Belarus should buy gas at higher prices for, than Western Europe, 22 % of the Russians consider that Belarus should buy gas at the reduced prices.

«More often the answer that Russia should sell gas to Belarus at the same prices, as to the West European countries, was said by the respondents with secondary education (67 %), with low consumer status (61 %), and also by the inhabitants of countryside (65)», the sociologists said.

Results of public inquiry showed that there were more Russians at the age of 18-24 years (19 %), and people with the low consumer status (18 %) among those who considered that the prices for Belarus should be higher.

«The opinion that the Russian gas should be delivered to Belarus at the reduced price in comparison with the prices for Western Europe, is more often common to more senior respondents, who are older than 40 years (26 %), who have higher (29 %) and average special (26 %) education, high level of incomes (31 %). They are also the citizens of Moscow (39 %)», «Levada-centre» informed.
