Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili will not attend the inauguration ceremony of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to be held on January 21. According to the spokesman of the head of the republic Manan Manjgaladze, the administration of Georgian President hadn't received invitations to attend the ceremony.

Elections were held in Belarus on December 19. Alexander Lukashenko ran for a fourth time and won a convincing victory.

Meanwhile, thousands of supporters of the Belarusian opposition held an unauthorized rally at Kastrychnitskaya Square in Minsk after the elections, and then attempted to capture the Government House.

The action was suppressed by the internal troops and Special Forces. About 600 protesters, including 11 Russians, were sentenced to administrative arrest.

Europe condemned the actions of the Belarusian authorities. January 12 the head of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek offered to deprive Belarus of the right to participate in international sporting events such as Olympics and world championships. He discussed possible sanctions against Minsk with several European leaders.

Polish agency PAP reported on January 17 that Warsaw had decided to ban Alexander Lukashenko to enter the country.
