Ex-presidential candidate in Belarus Andrei Sannikov, charged with the riots on December 19, refused to look into the eyes of the former presidential candidate of the United Civil Party, Yaroslav Romanchuk, speaking in court as a witness on May 4.

When the judge asked the defendant whether he had any questions to the witness, Andrei Sannikov said: «I have no questions to the witness, deeply involved and responsible for my wife being in prison.»

Previously, Yaroslav Romanchuk said that the leader of the «European Belarus» and another former candidate Vladimir Niakliaeu had suggested withdrawing his candidacy in their favor, but he decided to keep to his party program.

UCP representative told that opposition leaders had had no common plan of action during the campaign on December 19, and stressed that, nonetheless, the opposition had suggested only the dialogue. According to Yaroslav Romanchuk, he didn’t see moment of breaking glass at Government House, as well as the fact whether there were other politicians at this time there.

As you know, part of the Belarusian opposition called Yaroslav Romanchuk a traitor after his speech following the rally on December 19, which had been handed to him by the representatives of power structures.
