Seven former presidential candidates were charged with organizing and participating in riots. "Vladimir Niakliaeu, Nikolai Statkevich, Vital Rymasheuski, Andrei Sannikov, Ales Michalevic, Rygor Kastusiou and Dimitri Uss are known to have been charged," the report of the human rights center "Viasna" says.

In addition, according to the human rights center, opposition activists Pavel Severinets and Anastasia Palazhanka were charged as well.

Vladimir Niakliaeu, Nikolai Statkevich, Vital Rymasheuski, Andrei Sannikov and Ales Michalevic are now in the KGB jail in Belarus. Kastusiou and Uss gave a recognizance not to leave.
Let’s recall that the presidential elections in Belarus took place on December 19. Thousands of opposition supporters held an unauthorized rally at Kastrychnitskaya Square in central Minsk after the voting. The action was suppressed by the internal troops and special forces. In this case, criminal proceedings were instituted against seven opposition candidates, one of them — Vladimir Niakliaeu, received a head injury in the result of clashes with riot police. Minsk courts sentenced about 600 opposition protesters to administrative arrests.

It was earlier reported that a former presidential candidate Vladimir Niakliaeu suffered a hypertensive crisis in the KGB jail on December 29.
