Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the Seimas of Lithuania Emanuelis Zingeris invited to nominate former head of the Supreme Soviet of Belarus Stanislav Shushkevich for the Nobel Peace Prize. Such a proposal was made by head of the commission in connection with the politician's involvement in the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the formation of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

«20th anniversary of Belavezha agreements signing, which announced dissolution of the Soviet Union and the founding of the CIS, is going to be celebrated in 2011. This act was crucial at a time when the world was anxiously waiting for the collapse of the Soviet Union, aware of its nuclear capabilities and high conflict potential in its regions. Peaceful formation of the CIS became the most important act of diplomacy, which changed the geopolitical and military picture of the world,» «Narodnaya Volia» quoted the letter, sent to the Committee on the choice of the Nobel Peace Prize.

As Telegraf previously reported, Norwegian MP has previously suggested the infamous site WikiLeaks for nomination of the Nobel Peace Prize. He explained his decision by the fact that WikiLeaks, publishing information on corruption, war crimes and torture, played an important role in the fight for human rights.
