At the meeting of Presidium of the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister of Belarus, Sergei Sidorsky, proposed to accept old domestic appliances when purchasing new. "Today, many people have old Horizont TVs and Atlant refrigerators at home. So, let's organize the collection of these appliances and pay for its recycling that a person to go to, for example, Horizont and buy a new TV, microwave oven", Prime Minister stressed.

According to Sergei Sidorsky, it is necessary that when recycling household appliances there take into account market principles. For example, a citizen who brings old appliance may be conventionally paid 100 thousand rubles to purchase new Atlant refrigerator. «It is beneficial to the state. We will stimulate the collection of old equipment inside the country, recycle it, help enterprises», the prime minister underlined. Sergei Sidorsky demanded concerned departments to make concrete program for recycling of household appliances under the examination of the government, BelTA informs.

To implement this project, prime minister offers to create centers, which would be involved in collecting and recycling of old appliances in Belarusian regions, basing on international best practice. «In the world, there are technologies, when from chips they smelt gold, other elements», Sergei Sidorsky said. In this regard, the head of Belarusian government demanded to study the issue to build two or three plants in the country, where it will be possible to produce rare elements when recycling household appliances.

Belarus should reach 70-80% of recycling level, Sidorsky

Moreover, Sergei Sidorsky set a task to reach 70-80% of recycling level. According to the prime minister, the implementation of state program to collect (to procure) and process secondary raw materials in Belarus for 2009-2015 is not satisfactory so far. «When we adopted the program, in the country there recycled only 15% of secondary resources. But, unfortunately, today we can not develop this sector of economy. It is working ineffectually so far», Sergei Sidorsky noted. «A few years ago I examined recycling plants in Gomel and Minsk. There is no movement. Such work may not suit us».

In European countries, recycling rate exceeds 50%. For example, in the Netherlands it is around 90%, in Germany — 80%. Switzerland set a task to reach 100% of recycling secondary resources.

According to Sergei Sidorsky, current paces of state program’s implementation do not absolutely solve set targets. «Today, we are in times lagged behind what is being done in neighboring countries. We must give more autonomy to economic entities when developing this sector of economy», Prime Minister said. Sergei Sidorsky proposed to make amendments to the program, which will allow to reach 70-80% of recycling level by to 2015.
