Situation In Belarus Causes The Greatest Concern, British Foreign Office

British Foreign Office provided an annual report which stated Belarus as one of the countries where human rights situation is of greatest concern. List of countries where human rights situation remains a concern of the Britain is almost unchanged. 

March 17, British Foreign Office issued its annual report on human rights, Belarus is also subjected to analysis. Except Belarus,  Russia, China, Burma, Cuba, Somalia, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe are in the list.

The Ministry did not write about all countries, but only about 22 causing «greatest concern» — among which were, for example, Iran, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

In the chapter on Belarus British politicians note some positive moments, for example release of three political prisoners in August 2008 and at the same time, emphasize that the persecution of civil society activists and media are continuing, «Daily» reports.

British Foreign Office welcomed the dialogue between Belarusian authorities and EU on human rights issues and at the same time condemns the excessive use of police against demonstrators.

Diplomats have expressed dissatisfaction with the borders for activity of non-governmental organizations, problems with freedom of speech, but noted «signs of change.»
