The Belarusian government will spare no money for education and health. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting on the status and development prospects of cancer care in the country on October 26. "The state needs a healthy and educated person. That's where we shall invest the money," the Belarusian leader said.

«You know my position: education, followed by health or they may be even equal,» BelTA quoted Alexander Lukashenko.

The President also noted that the state planned to continue to increase the social component of the budget. «We’ll spend the last money to save a man, to arrange a normal life for him, to give him a normal education. But we’ll make it in parts, one part, another one — it’s already an oncology,» Alexander Lukashenko said.

Obligatory Medical Insurance is Possible, Lukashenko

Belarusian President also said that he would not exclude the possibility of an obligatory medical insurance system in the country. According to Alexander Lukashenko, the Belarusians should gradually accustom to the fact that most precious thing in life is health.

«Our future strategy is to focus on key areas of health development, having formed the basis. I don’t want to say that we’re not going to reform health care and introduce medical insurance, voluntary or obligatory, though it may sound unpopular,» the president said.

However, the Belarusian leader emphasized that the hospital should be «the place for treating people.» «I do not want to offend the elderly, but there are some chiefs’ parents that could be easily hospitalized and taken care of by making a single call. And then they’ll be kept in hospital for a month and a half instead of being treated and cared at home. But, unfortunately, it exists and we can’t immediately get rid of it, but we had to,» Alexander Lukashenko said.

According to the head of state, the question arises about the necessity of building more hospitals in Belarus. «Are we going to build some other hospitals? Should they exist if we optimize what we have today? Therefore, we’ll focus on the core painful areas — where we need to invest money. There’s money, we won’t spare it,» Alexander Lukashenko said.
