Switzerland has included new names in the sanctions list of the Belarusian officials, targeted for the violation of human rights. This is stated in the report of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland, which was made public on Monday, February 21. A new edition of the document becomes effective on February 22.

As Telegraf previously reported, the EU decided to freeze all the assets and economic resources of 157 representatives of the Belarusian authorities in connection with the falsification of elections in Belarus and the subsequent persecution of opposition. Visa sanctions were imposed on 158 officials. The sanctions came into force on February 2.

Switzerland has also imposed similar restrictions — February 14, Federal Department of Economic Affairs of the country amended the resolution on measures against Belarus, adopted on June 28, 2006. According to the new document, 158 Belarusian state officials are now banned to enter the country; assets and properties of 157 of them will be frozen in the territory of Switzerland as well. The decree was signed by the head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs of Switzerland Johanne N. Schneider-Ammann.

Earlier, Switzerland froze the assets of the President of Tunisia Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and President of Côte d’Ivoire Laurent Gbagbo. In addition, the state is going to freeze all the accounts of the former Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak.
