Relationships of the European Union and the Republic of Belarus will depend on the performance of the five basic requirements of democratization process. This was stated by the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule during his speech at Columbia University in New York (United States) on November 30.

As it became known to Telegraf, these conditions are as follow: the absence of political prisoners, reforming of electoral laws, freedom of the press and nongovernmental organizations, the abolition of the death penalty. «Of course, we will closely monitor the future elections,» the commissioner said.

«Isolation of the country in central Europe has not worked out, neither it will in the future. Therefore, we seek serious cooperation with Belarus, focusing mainly on the reforms that we deem necessary,» Stefan Fule said.
