The Government Is Working to Increase Teachers and Doctors' Wages, Radkov

The issue of wages increase for all employees of education and public health systems is being worked out by the government. It was stated on August 5 by the Minister of Education, Alexander Radkov, informed in the press service of the president.

The minister of education reported to Alexander Lukashenko on the results of implementation of previously given orders for the comprehensive development of educational system. The head of state instructed to improve the teaching of foreign languages in schools: to increase the number of classes on the subject by one hour a week and introduce a mandatory exam when graduating the school.

The president noted that this change should not harm other subjects. According to the head of state, stability of subjects’ balance in the school curriculum should not be broken.

Moreover, Alexander Lukashenko deems it necessary to improve physical training of pupils and to organize classes on physical education and labor training on the sixth day of the week.

Nine new schools and 10 nursery schools to be open in Belarus in 2010

Alexander Radkov also reported to the head of state about readiness for the school year. «This year, in the country there to be introduced 10 new nursery schools and nine new modern schools, equipped with everything necessary for quality teaching and educational process. There being completed major repairs of educational institutions», the minister of education said.

To prepare educational institutions for a new school year in 2010 there were directed 375 billion rubles.

Alexander Lukashenko gave instructions to implement consistently the enlargement of schools, to organize the arrival of pupils, in order to solve the problem of small schools, where it is difficult to provide quality education.

On personnel training, the president gave an order to increase step-by-step training of those specialists, extremely need in the country now and whose training is economically reasonable.

According to the minister of education, in Belarus there annually graduate about 40% of students with working professions, 30% get specialized secondary education, 30% — higher. However, in connection with the active development of IT-technologies in the country, it is necessary to expand training in this area, Alexander Radkov reported.

In general, Alexander Lukashenko set clear targets for planned, quality development of the entire educational system, summarized in the press service of Belarusian leader.
