The Kremlin Appreciates Belarusian Lawsuit on Customs Duties

The Kremlin has appreciated the fact that Belarus applied to the CIS Economic Court with the lawsuit on incompetence of levying customs duties on oil imported from Russia to Belarus, a source in Administration of Russia's President said. "It is a good example of that inter-state issues should not be resolved by means of pressure or PR, but in a civilized way," representative of the Kremlin said. 

«Apparently, the Kremlin is happy with the fact that the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, did not politicize the issue, and this time, decision will be taken by those officials, who are put on that kind of activity», Vremya Novostej newspaper quotes the words of the Kremlin source.

In its turn, the Russian government believes that the case considering «in court may be delayed, while the bilateral talks would give more rapid results», another interviewee of Russian edition said.

The source also referred to the last negotiations of the Council of Ministers of the Union State in Brest, noting that «both sides have a clear understanding of the prospects».  «As soon as the integration process comes to forming of the Common Economic Space of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, the issue with duties will be closed», Russian government’s  source said.

Moreover, as the Director of the Institute of Energy and Finance, Vladimir Feigin, supposes, filing lawsuit is «illogical only at first sight».  «It is a preventive measure. It is necessary to ensure that in July —  when the Customs Union begins functioning and all tariffs is canceled — there will not be any exceptions and special cases, as with oil or gas now or with gas earlier, «, the expert said, adding, that receiving the decision of the CIS Economic Court, Minsk will be able to secure a stable regime of supply.

CIS Economic Court accepted Belarusian lawsuit on duties to Russia

CIS Economic Court registered Belarusian lawsuit to Russia about the incompetence of levying customs duties on petroleum products. It was reported by the court spokesman, Vladimir Vinnik.

«Further action will be made in accordance with the regulations of the CIS Economic Court,» the court spokesman said, RIA Novosti reports.

In his turn, the head of the court’s secretariat, Hrachia Simonian, reported that «the time limits of lawsuit considering after its receipt may count six months and more».  «If there will be no need in applying for additional documents on the lawsuit, then the court may consider the case in terms of about six months», the head of the court’s secretariat court said.

Hrachia Simonian also stressed that «this case will be new for the court and may require additional documents to Belarusian lawsuit».
