The population of Belarus on May 1 of this year was equal 9.47 million and compared with the beginning of the year decreased by 8.3 thousand people. At the same time, since 2008, there become 214.4 thousand Belarusians less. However, since 1999, the population decreased by 573.1 thousand people. This is confirmed by data of Belarusian National Statistics Committee.
According to Belstat, the reduction of population in early 2010 is caused by increase of the number of deaths over the number of births by 11.62 thousand with a positive migration growth of 3.36 thousand.
According to statistics, for the first four months of this year, in the country there were born 34.7 thousand children (812 less than over the same period of last year), died — 46.3 thousand people (785 people less). The natural decrease of population counted 11.623 people.
In January-April period of this year compared to the same period of last year, the number of registered marriages increased by 0.2%, the number of divorces decreased by 0.6%.
During January-April period of 2010 there arrived 5.454 people in Belarus and 2.093 left, migration growth is 3.361 people.
