The United States welcomes the decision of the General Prosecutor's Office of Belarus to investigate into all versions of the death of Belarusian journalist Oleg Bebenin. It was stated on September 9 at the plenary session of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) by the U.S. permanent representative to the OSCE, Ian Kelly.
«All the parties are interested in conducting a full and transparent investigation. We call upon Belarusian authorities to fulfill its obligation to conduct such an investigation into circumstances of this sad and untimely death», the U.S. diplomat said.
Furthermore, on behalf of the U.S. authorities, he expressed his condolences to relatives and friends of Oleg Bebenin, AFN informs.
As Telegraf previously reported, Belarus decided to invite the OSCE criminalists to study the case of the death of journalist Oleg Bebenin, whose body was found on September 3 at his summer cottage near Minsk.
«The invitation to the OSCE experts is an unprecedented step in legal practice not only in Belarus but also in other European countries. It is dictated by our concern with the emergence of various unfounded speculations and insinuations appearing not only in mass media but also in the statements of some international structures’ representatives», Foreign Ministry spokesman, Andrei Savinykh, stated.
