The World Bank to Grant Belarus 5.5 Million Dollars

The World Bank will give Belarus a grant of 5.5 million dollars to phase persistent organic pollutants out. It was stated by the head of International Cooperation Department of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus, Alexander Rachevsky.

According to Alexander Rachevsky, Belarus has held talks with the delegation of the World Bank from Washington. «It was on cooperation in the environmental area, including the signing of the grant agreement to phase persistent organic pollutants out», said the representative of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

It is planned to direct this money at eliminating Slonim obsolete pesticides burial, containing persistent organic pollutants. In addition, at the expense of the World Bank, there will be removed about 800 tons of equipment, containing persistent organic pollutants, from Belarusian enterprises, BelTA informs.

Alexander Rachevsky noted that they are also negotiating with the World Bank to grant Belarus a credit in the amount of 42.5 million dollars. «These funds are needed to create a recycling system in Grodno. It is planned to build a modern plant for the mechanical sorting of municipal waste», the ministry representative said.
