Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and General Secretary of the Collective Security Treaty Bordyuzha discussed the priorities of the CSTO in the modern world situation in Minsk on March 1. According to Alexander Lukashenko, there are enough problems today both in the CSTO and the world.

«We have a number of issues to discuss; all the more, Belarus has taken over the presidency in our military-political organization. Besides, the background of our conversation today is not very pleasant, I mean there are enough problems in the world, as well as in the CSTO,» BelTA quoted the head of the Belarusian State.

In turn, the CSTO Secretary General, who has recently traveled to Kyrgyzstan, intends to report to the President of Belarus on the results. Also during the meeting, Alexander Lukashenko and Bordyuzha discussed the Belarusian initiative on the development of the CSTO. «I would like to hear the response of our colleagues,» said the head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko also suggested discussing other issues, including Belarus and Russia. According to the president of Belarus, he «will be interested in the assessment of future prospects, including the Union State and its role in the CSTO.»

In turn, Bordyuzha announced that he intends to report on plans of action to implement decisions of the December session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. «Work on this plan has been carried out for about two months, all the received comments and proposals have been taken into account,» said Nikolai Bordyuzha.

According to the CSTO Secretary General, the plan consists of two sections. «The first one includes the Belarusian initiatives and priorities during its presidency, the second one — actions to implement decisions of the December session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The main approach is the organization’s preparations for practical use in the event of any crisis situation,» said Nikolai Bordyuzha.

According to Nikolai Bordyuzha, greater attention will be given to the development of peacekeeping capacity of the CSTO, activity of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces (RRF), combat training activities and a number of other areas, including equipment with modern weapons. In addition, the creation of the CSTO institute partnership, as well as the coordination of foreign policy, will be one of the priorities, said Secretary General of the CSTO.
