Trade Deficit in Goods Reached $ 7 Billion in October

Belarusian foreign trade turnover of goods reached $46.688 billion in January-October 2010, having increased by 117.7% over the same period last year. However, the shortfall increased by 21.5% to $6.932 billion for the first ten months of 2010. This was reported by the National Statistics Committee of Belarus.

In this case, the negative trade balance with the CIS countries has amounted only to 68.8% since the previous year (-Br4.858 billion vs. -$7.055 billion). Trade deficit with the member-countries of the Customs Union reduced from -$7.727 billion  to -$5.891 billion. However the trade deficit with Russia amounted to -$6 billion compared to -$7.9 billion over the same period in 2009, as well as with Kazakhstan — $109 million against $205 million.

However, trade balance with countries outside the CIS, which used to be positive in 2009, turned into negative in 2010, having reduced from $1.35 billion to -$2.07 billion.

Belarus increased its exports by 17% to $19.878 billion over this period, as well as imports by 18.2% to $26.81 billion. Turnover with the CIS countries amounted to $26.8 billion against $21.9 billion (22% growth), non-CIS countries — $19.8 billion against $17.7 billion (12% increase).

The CIS countries increased their exports by 47.5% (in Russia by 48.6%, Kazakhstan by 49.3%), as well as imports — by 9.2% (from Russia by 5.1%, Kazakhstan in 4.8 times). Exports to non-CIS countries fell by 6.8%, while imports grew by 34%.
