CIS Economic Court decided to consider the claim of Belarus to Russia on petroleum products duties on September 7. Panel of judges resolved that the parties had not exhausted all possibilities to solve the conflict by themselves. The court recommended to resort to conciliation procedures.

The Economic Court also rejected to satisfy the three applications, filed by Belarus’ Ministry of Justice, which represents the interests of the government, BelTA informs.

The applications, in particular, were related to the use of measures of security nature to the Russian side. Belarus asked to ban Russia’s levying export duties on petroleum products supplied to Belarus, until the court reaches a final decision on the case.

Ministry of Justice argued its demand with that «the levying of duties on oil, supplied to the Republic of Belarus, by the Russian side is contrary to a number of international legal documents.

«The duty on petroleum products, imported from the Russian Federation to the Republic of Belarus, has never been imposed in the history of mutual trade between Belarus and Russia… Levying the export customs duties on petroleum products by the Russian side results substantial economic losses for not only enterprises of the Republic of Belarus but of the Russian Federation», Ministry of Justice stated in the petition.
