Director of Information Policy Department of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Voloshin, criticized statements by opponents of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich that he'd become similar in his policy to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. According to him, there's great difference between the heads of state — the former is more close to French President Charles de Gaulle, the latter — to the Spanish dictator Francisco Franco.

«Both were charged with contempt for democratic norms. But Franco wanted to preserve the past, while de Gaulle tried to build the future,» said Oleg Voloshin in his article in the publication of EUobserver.

Reference: Francisco Franco came to power in the result of the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939. He remained Head of State until his death in 1975. According to different sources, the number of victims of his regime reached 50 — 200 thousand people.
