The United States tightened the rules for issuing visas to citizens of Belarus, Bulgaria, Moldova, Russia, Romania and Ukraine since January 2011. The new rules cover the program "Work and Travel in the U.S." for those, planning to work and study in this country. It was stated by the U.S. Consul General in Russia Richard Beare.

The Consul General explained that the U.S. government had launched a pilot program for the six countries, participating in the program «Work and Travel in the U.S..» Additional requirements are imposed on this program’s participants, BelTA informs.

For example, those, willing to participate in the program, will have to find a specific job offer for potential work in the United States before applying for a visa, while they used to independently look for seasonal work immediately upon arrival in the U.S..

According to the Consul General, the U.S. authorities decided on such measures due to the frequent cases of participants’ involvement in illegal labor activities, criminal activities, as well as due to the evidence of non-payment of program participants’ labor.

«So we felt it necessary to somehow solve the problem. Now the program participants will not be able to obtain a visa until the authorized organization finds a particular job for them in a certain place,» said Richard Beare.

The Consul General also stressed that all volunteers to participate in the program should ask special sponsorship organizations for employment help provided for organizations’ being liable for these activities by the U.S. authorities.
