Vandals Broke the Crosses in the Memorial Complex in Kurapaty

Unknown vandals broke five crosses in the memorial complex of victims of the Stalinist reprisals in Kurapaty, informed the member of the organisation "Moladz of BPF" Andrej Ihnatchyk. He said, that he found the vandalism traces at 17:00 on April, 4th, when he came to Kuropaty.

Unknown persons broke four crosses in the beginning of the lane of a complex, and also a big cross with an icon fixed on it. The cross with the icon was leant against a tree by the vandals. Also the traces of a fire and the scattered garbage were found out near the Clinton bench, the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty informs.

It not the first act of vandalism in the territory of the national memorial. Vandals not just used to destroy the crosses; they also used to profane the tombs. Periodically the police start to investigate the criminal cases for destruction of the tombs of Stalinism victims. But the criminals have not been found yet.

The public have asked repeatedly the authorities to establish observation cameras in Kurapaty to stop the acts of vandalism.
