Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Venezuela to Belarus Americo Diaz Nunez said at videobrifing in Minsk on January 6 that Venezuela could buy additional crude oil from Azerbaijan to fulfill its delivery contract with Belarus. "Venezuela might not be able to produce ten million tons of oil, demanded worldwide," he said.

Contract, signed between Venezuela and Belarus, involves the supplement of light oil supply of «Santa Barbara» grade with a similar quality oil from Azerbaijan, BelTA informs.

Plans, stated recently by the Belarusian authorities, to use the swap scheme in oil supplies «do not deal with the substitution of Venezuelan oil with Azerbaijan,» the diplomat said.

«Oil company PDVSA will purchase an additional amount of oil in Azerbaijan to ensure the execution of the contract to supply up to ten million of oil a year to Belarus,» ambassador said.

This oil will go to Belarus through «Odessa-Brody» pipeline. The Belarusian side will pay Azerbaijan not for the oil itself, but only for its delivery. «As you can see, this cooperation is beneficial for both parties and, in particular, for Belarus,» Americo Diaz Nunez said.

In addition, he informed that the created Belarusian-Venezuelan oil production company «Petrolera BeloVenezolana» is «a successful example of good functioning of our strategic alliance.» «Petrolera BeloVenezolana» sells its products to PDVSA company and brings annual revenue to both sides. «Soon we will know the outcome of the joint venture that will greatly surpass the results of 2009, as the company have been added with additional deposits,» the diplomat said.

Belarus is invited to participate in alliances of major international oil companies, almost all of which work in the Orinoco River basin. However, one will need «much more investment» to get oil there, due to the type of deposits, he said.

Caracas Expects Significant Growth of Belarusians Population in Venezuela

Americo Diaz Nunez also noted that the number of Belarusian employees in the areas of agriculture, construction and gas supply would increase in Venezuela in 2011, and their number would become even more in 2015.

Belarusian specialists will help Venezuelans to build agricultural towns — one of the projects to build an agro-town in the state of Guarico is already under development.

According to Americo Diaz Nunez, Belarusian specialists are highly valued in Venezuela. Belarusians are very friendly, hardworking people with great experience in many areas,» the diplomat said.
