We not Break Anything More in Education, Lukashenko

President of Belarus is assured that it is necessary to save present educational system in the country. He considers that it's unnecessary to carry out various reforms, which have already been carried out enough. Alexander Lukashenko passed his opinion at the meeting for higher school development and quality of educational sector experts preparation.

«It is necessary to recognise that we should not break anything more. We are to take the chosen road of education. We are only to improve it, but not dramatically, because we will break something more. It is necessary to operate very accurately and easy», Belarusian leader said.

«We need a normal educational system, focused, first of all,  on our economy, on our society, on our country. We shouldn’t follow any states or countries», the head of the state emphasized.

Joining Bologna process we can need some new reforms, Lukashenko

Belarus joining Bologna process by was also discussed at the meeting. Alexander Lukashenko paid attention once again that the declaration doesn’t demand categorically innovations in the educational system of Belarus. Thus, President is worried about the necessity to carry out new reforms after joining this declaration. The head of the state considers that in the educational system of Belarus «there are a lot of unsolved problems in which it is necessary to be engaged instead of thinking about carrying out new reforms».

Alexander Radkov, Minister of Education said, that Belarus joining to Bologna process would enable Belarus participation in working out perspective educational and scientific programs, more students would get possibility to study, interaction between the universities within the various programs would increase.

Alexander Lukashenko charged the minister once again to consider everything attentively, to decide on the order of priorities and later to report him, how these ideas correspond to national interests, how they would help to improve both economy, and country development, the press-service of the Belarus leader informed.

The issue of Belarus joining Bologna process was discussed at the meeting in January, 2005.

According to the results of the meeting the decision on introduction of two-level education system was accepted. Preparation of the experts as the first level of higher education, and magistracy orientated on preparation for postgraduate study were conserved.

Belarus started procedure of joining Bologna process, having signed the Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the European Region (the Lisbon convention).

Ministers of Education of 29 European countries in June, 1999 in Bologna signed the Bologna declaration in higher education sphere. Bologna process is supported officially by 47 states, including some countries of the former USSR such as Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan.
