We to Do our Best to Improve CSTO, Lukashenko

Belarus will make every effort to improve the CSTO functioning during its presidency. This was announced by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko at the meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Moscow on December 10.

The President also thanked the Russian side for its constructive work during its presidency in the CSTO. The Belarusian leader emphasized the prepared agenda being very busy, BelTA informs.

«Today we will review and sign important documents to provide the legal framework for further improvement of the CSTO capacity, as well as the responses to crisis and conflict situations,» «Alexander Lukashenko said, adding that «Belarus has always advocated the need to improve the efficiency of the CSTO activities in this direction.»

The president noted that a number of initiatives and approaches of the Belarusian presidency, aimed at organization strengthening, had been discussed at a narrow-format meeting. «Their implementation will greatly improve cooperation in the political and military spheres, as well as in the range of new challenges and threats,» Alexander Lukashenko said.

According to Telegraf, the CSTO presidency passed from Russia to Belarus. Documents, «revealing new CSTO opportunities for the crisis response, as well as new uses of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces,» were approved on December 9, the Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Martnynov said.
