Wife of Ex-Candidate Michalevic was Banned to Leave Belarus

Wife of ex-presidential candidate Ales Mikhalevich, who is now in the KGB jail after Minsk events of December 19, was banned to leave the country. She was informed about it after being stopped in her car near the town of Baranavichy Brest voblast while traveling to Warsaw to attend the hearings on Belarus. 

According to the press service of the former candidate, Milana Michalevic formerly missed the train due to the KGB’s search in her apartment. The day before, her husband had called her from the KGB detention center, asking not to go to Warsaw. Wife of the politician said that Ales Michalevic had been talking to her in a strange manner. In addition, she heard someone telling him what to say, «Nasha Niva«.

Also, the KGB did not allow Tatiana Seviarynets, the mother of the co-chairman of the «Belarusian Christian Democracy» Pavel Seviarynets, to leave for Warsaw. KGB approached her an hour before the departure of the train, gave her a summons to the magistrate to be attended immediately. After the interrogation, lasted half an hour, the woman could not get back her passport.

Apartment of Ex-Candidate Sannikov was Searched

Also, the KGB raided the apartment of another former presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov on January 12, as well as the apartment of his wife Irina Khalip’s parents. The politician’s mother-in-law Lucyna Khalip, who was present during the search, refused to comment on the incident, having given a non-disclosure subscription.

In addition, it became known that the KGB had arrested Alexander Vasilevski, an activist of the campaign «European Belarus,» already convicted for the events of December 19. In addition, the chairman of the «Belarusian Association of Journalists» Jeanna Litvina was called by the KGB for interrogation as a witness.

Also, as a part of a criminal investigation into the events of December 19, the offices of opposition groups in Hrodna — campaign «For Free Elections» and the local office of the BPF — were searched. It was reported by the defender Viktor Sazonov and the head of Hrodna PBNF Vadim Saranchukou. In addition, Polish journalist Andrei Pochobut was arrested in Hrodna. He was was taken to Kastrychnitski district court in Minsk after the KGB searching. «This is revenge for my journalistic work, for the failed «conversation,» for a complaint to the prosecutor’s office,» said the detainee.
