The Number of Women-Alcoholics Increased by Third in Belarus for 5 Years

The number of people, addicted to alcohol, is steadily growing in Belarus. According to the National Statistics Committee, the number of registered alcoholics among women increased by 37% over the last five years. According to the Interior Ministry, alcoholism also leads to the crime increase.

As Telegraf reports, the Belarusian authorities will allocate Br45.071 billion (almost $15 million) in 2011-2015 to support the state program to overcome alcohol abuse and alcoholism. The decision was taken by Decree № 27 of the Council of Ministers. Funds for the project are planned from both the national budget (Br27.909 billion) and the local one (Br17.162 billion).

In particular, Br236 million will be allocated for the program financing in 2011; Br13.6 billion — in 2012; Br13.7 billion — in 2013; Br9.59 billion and Br7.9 billion — in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
