The ruble and foreign currency deposits in banks in Belarus increased by more than Br4.8 trillion ($1.6 billion), or 26.5% in 2010, making Br23 trillion ($7.6 billion) in early January 2011. Telegraf was reported in the management of the country's National Bank.

Considering all funds, raised by banks (non-residents, savings certificates and bonds’ placement), this figure amounted to Br24.3 trillion ($8.1 billion), having increased by Br5.6 trillion ($1.8 billion) for the year. On average, Br2.56 million ($855.3 savings in bank deposits and certificates) is the share of a citizen of Belarus.

As noted in the National Bank, 2010 deposits in rubles grew from Br8 trillion ($2.6 billion) up Br9.8 trillion ($3.2 billion); in foreign currency — from $3.5 billion to nearly $4.4 billion in equivalent.

As Telegraf previously reported, chairman of the National Bank Petr Prokopovich urged Belarusians to keep savings in banks. «I would like to advise citizens, keeping their money at home both in Belarusian rubles or in any other currency, to keep it in banks. Firstly, they ensure the safety of savings, and secondly, make them interest-bearing. Then the money will be used to improve our country’s economy and our lives in general,» he said.
