Year's Foodstuffs Prices Rose by 13.1% in Belarus, Belstat

Food price index amounted to 1.6% in December against November 2009. Inflation for foodstuffs reached 13.1% in Belarus during the period from December 2009 to December 2010. This is proved by the data from the National Statistical Committee.

According to the National Statistics Committee, potatoes (by 58.7%), vegetable and animal oil (37.8% and 34.8% respectively) became the most expensive for the year. Meat and poultry went up by 10.6%, sausage and smoked products — 10.4%, fish and seafood — by 5.4% and canned fish — 9% up.

Price for milk and dairy products has grown by 15% over the year, cheese — by 18.6%, eggs — by 14.1%, bread and bakery products — by 4.5%, pasta — 2.4%, cereals and sugar — by 39.3% and 27.8% respectively. Prices for confectionery products have risen by 16.9%, tea, fruits and vegetables — by 10.3%, 25.1% and 14.4% respectively.

Prices for alcoholic drinks in Belarus increased by 9.1% during the period from December 2009 to December 2010, tobacco products — by 2.5%.

Gasoline Became the Most Expensive, Belstat

The price index for non-food products amounted to 0.4% in December 2010 compared with November of the same year. Inflation reached 7.4% against December 2009.
 
Prices for gasoline (17%) and stationery (at 15.6%) were especially high. According to the Statistics Committee, the price for drugs increased by 9.8%, textile — by 7.8%, garments — by 4.6%, footwear — by 3.1%, furniture — by 7.6%, crockery — 5.9%, household electrical goods — by 5,2%.

The index of prices and tariffs for paid services was 0.3% in December 2010 against November 2010, and 6% against December 2009.
