Russia has never officially supported Belarusian opposition and has not participated in its business, knowing the situation in Belarus. It was stated on June 11 at press conference in Minsk by Russian Ambassador to Belarus, Alexander Surikov, commenting on the information of a number of Belarusian mass media that Russian businessmen supposedly financed Belarusian opposition and "Tell the truth!" civil campaign.

«In terms of Russia’s participation in Belarusian opposition’s business, I can not confirm that this is true», RIA Novosti quotes Russian diplomat.

At the same time, Alexander Surikov does not rule out the possibility that opposition representatives visit Moscow and have contacts with Russian parties. According to Russian diplomat, in Russia there are also «various parties, including in opposition, and Belarusian opposition representatives probably visit these parties».

«Representatives of Belarusian authorities could use Belarusian opposition’s intentions as a help, and not to say that there is the Russian or Polish track in funding of Belarusian opposition», Alexander Surikov said.

Russia sees no alternative to Lukashenko in Belarus’ field, Surikov

Answering journalists’ questions about whether Russia would support Belarusian leader at the upcoming elections, Russian ambassador in Minsk declared that Moscow saw no alternative to Lukashenko as president of Belarus.

«We still do not see anything else in this field», Alexander Surikov said, adding that Russia supports Belarusian president and does not make any sharp statements against Belarus and requests the same attitude.

«Despite the Russian support, Lukashenko is not pro-Russian president», Russian diplomat said. «We understand that Alexander Grigorievich is the president of Belarus, of a sovereign state, and can not be pro-Russian, pro-American, pro-Ukrainian president», Alexander Surikov said.
