Russian leadership may contribute to "overthrow the last dictator in Europe", the expert Benjamin Bidder stated. According to him, during the governance of the current President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, relations between Minsk and Moscow have ever reached such a critical state, as it is today.

The expert believes that information campaign carried out in mass media against Belarusian president indicates that Moscow is trying to intervene actively in election campaign in Belarus. «Russia is up in arms against its once closest ally and with redoubled energy interferes in presidential race starting in Belarus», SPIEGEL ONLINE observer, Benjamin Bidder, stated.

According to the columnist, in exchange for economic preferences Moscow expects Minsk  to be compliant. «However, it has no results until now. For several years, Belarusian president has been trying to do the foreign policy splits between East and West: either he swears in his loyalty to» brother Slavs «, or convinces the EU in his intention to strengthen relations with Europe», Benjamin Bidder explained.

Eelections-2011 may become the last for Lukashenko, Expert opinion

Alexander Lukashenko feels that elections-2011 will not be easy fro him, the expert says. At the same time, he notes that this is a good chance for Belarusian opposition. «If representatives of uncoordinated Belarusian opposition are able to unite before elections, then they may become the last for Alexander Lukashenko», Benjamin Bidder said.

However, Belarusian democratic forces themselves can not come to agreement. Thus, on August 18, at a round table, opposition’s representatives made a joint statement to choose a single candidate, which supposed to be solemnly signed on August 24. Nevertheless, the meeting was not attended by all potential candidates for presidency.

«The behaviour of aspirants, who ardently support the idea of nominating «a single candidate» in words, but in fact sent only their «representatives» to such meetings, surprises», the leader of European Coalition Nikolai Sattkevich stated.

Opposition apprehends the creation of coordination center, Statkevich

Nevertheless, in near future, Belarus’ democratic forces plan to create a single coordination center. «Its format is a subject of negotiations and future meetings. The fact is that two organizations have expressed their concern this body not to become too strong», Nikolai Statkevich says.

In addition, the leader of European Coalition noted that some opposition leaders see his turn to head the round table as a personal desire to get an extra plus, and therefore seek not to give him this plus. Nikolai Statkevich considers such jealousy from other contenders futile, «childish».
