22 Persons Charged with "Case of December 19," MIA

Ministry of Interior Affairs announced on December 30 that 22 persons had been charged under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Belarus "Riots." All of them are in custody. Two Russian citizens, served a 10-day sentence in jail, were released from prison on December 29, the Office said.

They were detained after release «under criminal investigation for the riot on December 19-20, 2010 according to Article 108 of the Criminal Code of belarus (Detention on direct suspicion of committing a crime), the Interior Ministry specified.

However, the Office doesn’t give the names of defendants in the case of riots.

«As of December 29, 2010 more than 300 people, having served penalty in the form of administrative arrest for participation in unauthorized activities in Minsk on December 19-20, have been released of the special police agencies,» the Ministry told.

«These individuals have been prosecuted under article 23.34 of the Code of the Republic of Belarus on Administrative Violations «Violations of the order of organization or holding mass events or picketing.» 12 citizens of the Russian Federation (the eight were released ahead of time), a Ukrainian citizen and one from the Republic of Lithuania are among them,» the Interior Ministry.
