Russia Ready to Defend Belarus from Poland - Photo

The General Staff of Russia considers "Poland’s territorial claims to Belarus" as threat to the country’s military security. This is stated in the presentation of the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia - the First Deputy Defence Minister, Army General, Nikolai Makarov, which is available on the website of the Public Chamber of Russia.

Meanwhile, the national security concept of Belarus of November 9, 2010 states that "the borders of the Republic of Belarus are not the subject of territorial disputes and claims," while the "state of border security is stable." The military doctrine of Belarus also points out that "currently the Republic of Belarus regards no state a potential enemy."

Meanwhile, "Belarus will consider as its potential enemy the state whose policy is a military threat to the Republic of Belarus, leading to interference in its internal affairs and infringement on its sovereignty and territorial integrity."

As Telegraf previously reported, September 30, at a festival "Dazhynki" in Maladzechna, president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko expressed outrage at the policies of Poland towards Belarus.

"Well, the Poles can’t sit still, you know. It is no longer a secret: the western boundary should be drawn by Minsk. They are trying by hook or by crook to chop off part of Western Belarus. I must say, as long as I live and exist here as president, they won’t get it. Our country is united, integral and indivisible. And it won’t work pressing us by the fifth column," he said.

Following the statements, Belarus Ambassador in Warsaw Viktor Gaisenok was called on October 11 to the Foreign Minister of Poland, where he stated that "the repeated statements of Alexander Lukashenko about the alleged wish of the Polish authorities to review the state borders, are devoid of any foundation." "Such statements are incendiary, they are extremely irresponsible and target to create unnecessary problems between neighbors," said the Foreign Ministry.

November 16, Ambassador of Poland to Belarus Leszek Sherepka said that European states are not inventing any conspiracy against Belarus, but only requires complying with democratic principles. "There's no conspiracy. The democratic world is just speaking out its mind about the situation in Belarus," said the diplomat.

In response, Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Savinykh noted that Poland is getting increasingly hostile towards Belarus. "We have to note that the current Polish establishment occupies an increasingly hostile attitude towards our country," he said.

"The ambassador also dissembles on Poland's position as an observer for the democratic development in Belarus. There is a lot of evidence, suggesting that the Polish side is getting actively involved and is trying to influence political processes in Belarus," said Head of the Information Ministry of Belarus.

He stressed that these actions are contrary to "the requirements of international law and directly contradict the UN Charter, recalled by the Polish ambassador at a press conference."
